Somatua Training Center (STC), a job training institution located in Timika, Central Papua, has resumed field practice classes for participants in the general Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and excavator operator programs. The practical classes began on Thursday, January 18, 2023, and are ongoing.

There are 2 participants in the general Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) training program and 8 participants in the excavator operator training program. All participants come from Timika City. This field practice class is part of the training curriculum at Somatua Training Center. The class is designed to provide hands-on experience for the trainees in operating heavy equipment and applying OHS principles.

For the general OHS class, participants will study topics such as workplace safety in industrial settings, accident prevention, and emergency response. They will also engage in hands-on practice using safety equipment such as helmets, safety glasses, and safety shoes within the work environment of the Somatua Training Center workshop.

Meanwhile, in the excavator operator class, participants will learn topics such as an introduction to heavy equipment, how to operate heavy machinery, and equipment maintenance. They will also engage in hands-on practice operating excavators for various tasks, such as digging soil, loading materials, and moving materials.

These field practice classes are guided by experienced and qualified instructors. The instructors provide guidance and supervision to ensure that participants can operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.

Participants in the general OHS and excavator operator training programs are highly enthusiastic about taking part in the field practice classes. They hope to gain valuable skills and knowledge to advance their careers in the construction and mining sectors.

"I’m very happy to take part in the field practice class. I get to learn firsthand how to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively," said one of the excavator operator training participants.

“This practical class is very beneficial for me. I can apply the knowledge I learned in the theory class,” said one of the general OHS training participants.

Somatua Training Center will continue to provide quality training to its participants. The center hopes that through high-quality training, it can enhance the competence of the workforce in Papua and contribute to the economic growth of the region.(TIMSTC)
