Somatua Training Center (STC) has once again organized job training for students who have met the administrative requirements at the beginning of 2024. The last training was held in mid-December 2023 in collaboration with the Intan Jaya Regency Government, which graduated six participants from the construction training program. Following that training, Somatua Training Center entered an evaluation and preparation period for the 2024 training sessions. Therefore, STC reopened registration for prospective participants in the first week of January 2024. From this reopening, 12 participants are ready to take part in the training, which will last for one month.

On Friday (January 12, 2024), the prospective training students received Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from Somatua Training Center as part of the initial procedure to participate in the training starting today (January 15, 2024). All 12 participants were present on the first day, which included an introduction to the institution and basic materials on safety and occupational health. The first batch of 2024 training students are enrolled in three different programs: excavator operator, safety (OHS), and welding. There are seven participants in the excavator operator program, three in the safety (OHS) program, and two in the welding program.

As with previous regular training sessions, this program will include both theory and practical components, with a strong emphasis on field practice activities. Among the participants, there are two women enrolled in the safety training. Unfortunately, in this early 2024 training intake (Intake 15), the number of Indigenous Papuan participants remains low. Out of all the trainees in Intake 15, only three are Indigenous Papuans. Somatua Training Center remains committed to involving more Papuan participants, including those from the Seven Tribes and other Papuan ethnic groups. This training will run for one month as part of the regular program. Meanwhile, Somatua Training Center continues to accept registrations for the next intake, scheduled for February after the 2024 elections.(TIMSTC)
