Somatua Training Center (STC) held a one-day workshop for instructors and prospective assessors at the Swiss-Belinn Hotel in Timika on Friday, November 24, 2023. The workshop carried the theme “Creating Training Plans and Assessments Based on SKKNI.” During the event, participants learned how to develop training plans derived from the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI).

Somatua Training Center invited Fransiscus Fendi Novento, S.T., M.Kes., as the sole speaker for this event. He is an assessor, instructor, auditor, and General Superintendent of the Mining Safety Division at PT Freeport Indonesia. The participants included instructors and prospective assessors from Somatua Training Center, the Operational Director, HRD and safety team from PT Mpaigelah, the supervisor of Somatua Training Center, and staff from the Somatua Foundation.

The workshop on developing training and assessment plans was officially opened by Aryati Nagapa, President Director of PT Mpaigelah, and took place in the Kasuari 2 meeting room at the Swiss-Belinn Hotel in Timika. In her speech, the President Director expressed gratitude to the speaker and especially to the instructors who have steadfastly supported the development of Somatua Training Center up to now. “This is a very good opportunity for us to learn. Don’t waste it because it won’t come twice,” she emphasized.

The speaker then presented an overview of the SKKNI and detailed its explanation, including an example of developing a training plan based on a single competency unit. The full-day event, running from morning until afternoon, was engaging and included interactive Q&A sessions between participants and the speaker, as well as fun games.

Participants also had the opportunity to practice developing training and assessment plans for other competency units using templates provided by the speaker. Despite feeling tired from sitting for long periods, the prospective assessors remained very enthusiastic in following the activities, recognizing the valuable knowledge gained. The speaker guided the groups closely and answered participants' questions with clear and easy-to-understand explanations.

The participants gained sufficient basic knowledge and skills in creating training and assessment plans from today’s workshop. This experience will serve as valuable preparation for them to take part in assessor training in support of Somatua Training Center’s upcoming LSP accreditation. Currently, Somatua Training Center is in the advanced stages of preparing for BNSP accreditation, and the prospective assessors, as key human resources supporting this process, play a crucial role. Today’s workshop is expected to provide a fundamental understanding of SKKNI and how to develop training and assessment plans.(TimSTC)
