Four students in the excavator operator training class are practicing soil leveling on land that will be turned into a garden at SP 2 behind the government housing complex in Timika. This activity is part of the training curriculum aimed at equipping students with basic excavator operation skills at Somatua Training Center this morning (November 22, 2023).
During this practical session, the students are guided by experienced instructors. They are taught how to operate various excavator functions, such as the arm, bucket, and boom. The students are also trained to apply safe and efficient soil leveling techniques.

One of the students, who comes from Sorong, said that this practical session is very beneficial for him. He admitted that he had never operated an excavator before. “I’m really happy to participate in this practice. I can learn how to operate the excavator properly,” said the excavator operator trainee.
In this practical session, the students were tasked with leveling the soil. They worked in groups, with each group consisting of two people. The soil leveling process was done by maneuvering the excavator bucket: the bucket was directed towards the soil to be leveled, then pushed forward.

The students appeared enthusiastic during the practical session. They expressed happiness in learning how to operate the excavator. This training aims to enhance workforce competence in the construction sector. It is attended by four students from various cities across Papua province. The training runs for one month, from early to late November.(TimSTC)
