Central Papua — The Central Papua Provincial Government continues to strengthen efforts to improve the quality of the local workforce through hands-on skills-based training programs. In collaboration with the Somatua Foundation, the training… Occupational Safety and Health (K3) held again in Somatua Training Center (STC), with a focus on work practices in height.
This training is attended by selected participants as part of a strategic collaboration between the Central Papua Provincial Government and the Somatua Foundation, and is directly guided by certified K3 instructor, Subana Simamora.
“Today’s practical session focused on simulating work at heights, particularly on the use of personal protective equipment such as full body harnesses and safety rope systems. They were taught how to safely ascend and descend structures, as well as how to perform self-rescue in case of an emergency,” explained… Subana Simamora.
According to Subana, understanding workplace safety is non-negotiable. “Safety is absolute. We can learn and improve our techniques along the way, but if safety is ignored, the risk is life itself. That’s why this training is crucial — to build the right mindset and work discipline,” he added.
The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout every stage of the training, from wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) to hands-on simulation exercises on elevated structures.
One of the participants, Yohanes Wonda (23)shared that it was their first time learning to work at heights with professional standards. “At first, I was scared to climb up, but after the explanation and being equipped with safety gear, I felt more confident. Now I understand that working at heights must not be taken lightly,” said Yohanes.
He also expressed appreciation for the program for broadening his horizons. “Thank you to the Central Papua Government and the Somatua Foundation. We, the youth of Papua, now have knowledge we can use when working on construction or mining projects in the future,” he added.
This training is part of a significant step toward building a more self-reliant and empowered Papua by creating human resources that are not only skilled, but also disciplined, safety-conscious, and ready to meet the demands of various industrial sectors. ready to work and safety conscious.
