Central PapuaHeavy equipment operator training continues to run intensively in Timika. Today, trainee students from Intan Jaya Regency who are enrolled in the Excavator Operator program have entered a crucial stage of the field practice session—material excavation and backfilling, also known as the equipment combination stage.

The training takes place at the Galian C excavation site, located directly behind the Timika Regional Government Housing Complex, and is led by experienced instructor Nabot Wandadaya, who emphasized that the current main focus is on technical understanding and precision in heavy equipment operation.

"At this stage, I am still teaching them how to operate the excavator—specifically how to dig and backfill. For the time being, I will continue to focus their training on the equipment combination phase," explained Nabot during the training session.

This stage is crucial in the training process as it combines two fundamental skills that every professional excavator operator must master: efficiency in material excavation and precision in backfilling. Both must be carried out with a strong emphasis on safety and work effectiveness.

The training participants appeared enthusiastic and increasingly skilled in operating heavy equipment in open-field conditions. This serves as a positive indicator of their progress throughout the intensive training program.

This training program is not only aimed at producing operators capable of running excavators, but also at equipping participants with foundational knowledge on operational standards, workplace safety, and efficient, responsible use of heavy equipment.

As the skills of these students from Intan Jaya continue to grow, they are expected to become job-ready workers for the rapidly developing construction and mining sectors in Central Papua. (STC)
