On Thursday (August 11, 2022), representatives from KOPANA Pertamina conducted a training session on handling gas cylinder leak incidents at Somatua Training Center (STC). Prior to the training, the KOPANA Pertamina team had visited STC to explore the possibility of organizing such a session. After reaching an agreement and aligning the schedule, the training was successfully held on Thursday, August 11, 2022.
This safety-related training involved staff from Somatua Training Center, safety personnel from PT Mpaigelah, and workshop staff from Papua Global Persada. The training session lasted for one hour, from nine to ten in the morning. KOPANA Pertamina was represented by Mulyadi, who brought along equipment including gas cylinders and a mini stove.
Although the training lasted only one hour, the participants were enthusiastic in following the explanations and practical exercises on the steps to take during a gas cylinder leak incident. Mulyadi emphasized that the first and most important principle when such an incident occurs is not to panic or run away. Instead, the immediate action should be to turn off the cylinder’s regulator valve to extinguish the flame right away. In addition to explaining how to handle a leaking gas hose, Mulyadi also demonstrated a simulation of dealing with the issue in front of the participants. He then asked several participants to perform the steps for handling a gas cylinder leak incident according to the explanation and simulation provided.
Furthermore, he informed and promoted that the type of gas cylinder regulator currently produced is much safer compared to the standard regulators commonly used in households.
This training was seen as highly beneficial for the participants involved. They gained knowledge and practical lessons that will be useful both in their family environments and at the workplace.
