Somatua Training Center (STC) has once again partnered with the Department of Manpower and Transmigration (Disnakertrans) of Mimika Regency to conduct a one-day safety training or Occupational Health and Safety (K3) on Friday, September 29, 2023. Previously, the two parties collaborated on a month-long training program for 51 participants in excavator operation and wood construction. That training program was completed, and certificates were handed out on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Today, the Department of Manpower and Transmigration (Disnakertrans) of Mimika Regency once again entrusted Somatua Training Center to conduct a specialized training program on Occupational Health and Safety (K3). The participants included eight staff members from Somatua Training Center, PT Mpaigelah’s safety division, and Yayasan Somatua staff. Meanwhile, six participants came from Disnakertrans itself. The training was delivered by Subhana Simaamora, a licensed and experienced safety instructor from Somatua Training Center who is also a former safety officer at PT Freeport Indonesia.

The material provided covered basic concepts of Occupational Health and Safety (K3) and practical knowledge related to handling workplace hazards and everyday risks. The details were thorough and practical, especially concerning fire risks categorized by types of fires and their respective handling methods, as well as risks and procedures for managing safety in confined workspaces.

The participants found the training material very useful but also felt the time allocated was still insufficient. “We at Disnaker are very grateful to receive training like this because there are many practical and useful aspects of safety that are still new to us,” explained Victor Hindom, S.Sos

Somatua Training Center hopes for continued collaboration to further enhance safety knowledge for training participants. On Saturday (30/9/2023), the training will continue with practical exercises in fire extinguishing using fire extinguishers (APAR). This morning, at the back yard of Somatua Training Center, instructors have prepared APAR equipment to train participants’ skills in handling fire emergencies effectively at the workplace.(Tim)
