Timika, Papua Tengah — The shared commitment to developing human resources in Papua continues to be demonstrated through various strategic initiatives. One such effort is marked by the official launch of a training program in the fields of industry, MSMEs, and agriculture, held through a collaboration between the Central Papua Provincial Government and the Somatua Foundation on Monday (July 28) in Timika.
The inauguration event began with a joint prayer, followed by an inspiring speech from the President Director of the Somatua Foundation, Mrs. Aryati Nagapa. In her remarks, she encouraged all participants not to underestimate the small efforts made today, as it is often from these small beginnings that great opportunities can emerge.

“Never grow weary of striving in the small things, because it is from there that the path to greater jobs and responsibilities begins to open,” Aryati passionately stated in front of the participants.
This training program is attended by 60 selected participants out of a total of 400 applicants who underwent a rigorous selection process since early July. They will take part in competency-based training across three key sectors: industry, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and agriculture — all of which are strategic sectors in supporting the local economic development of Papua.

Also present at the inauguration was Rahman, S.E., Head of the Training and Workforce Productivity Division at the Mimika Regency Department of Manpower and Transmigration. In his remarks, Rahman emphasized the importance of self-confidence among Papua’s younger generation in contributing to the development of their homeland, despite the many challenges they may face.
“Papuan youth absolutely have what it takes to rise and build Papua,” Rahman affirmed. “Even though this land is rich and attracts many outsiders, we must not back down. We must become masters of our own land.” His statement was met with enthusiastic applause from the participants.

Also in attendance was Hendri Bajo, a representative of the Somatua Foundation, who has been actively involved in supporting training programs and community empowerment initiatives throughout Central Papua.
The inauguration was symbolically marked by the handing over of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to two participants, conducted directly by Mrs. Aryati Nagapa and Rahman, S.E. This handover served as a significant moment, signaling the official start of the training program, which is scheduled to run over the coming weeks.

The event concluded with a warm and friendly shared meal, providing an opportunity for participants to connect with the team from the Somatua Foundation. This moment also served to strengthen solidarity among the group as a united learning community.
Through strong collaboration between the government and local institutions, this training program is expected to serve as a starting point for the emergence of a skilled, independent generation of young Papuans who are ready to take an active role in sustainable development on their own land. (STC)
