The Acting Regional Secretary (Pj. Sekda) of Nduga Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province, Ricky Johanes Kapelle, S.STP, visited the Somatua Training Center (STC) on Monday (March 10) to explore a potential cooperation plan between the Nduga Regency Government and STC. The Acting Regional Secretary was welcomed by the staff of the Somatua Foundation and STC.

On this occasion, the Acting Regional Secretary (Pj. Sekda) conveyed the background of the Nduga Regency Government’s interest. He stated that Nduga has a productive generation of human resources, predominantly young people who have dropped out of school. Infrastructure development projects in Nduga largely involve workers from outside the region and often face security disturbances. The local government needs skilled local human resources who can be utilized to develop Nduga Regency. The Acting Regional Secretary of Nduga Regency views STC as the answer to their needs. Therefore, they are very enthusiastic about starting this cooperation.

Accompanied by staff from the Somatua Foundation and STC, the Acting Regional Secretary (Pj. Sekda) of Nduga Regency then inspected the training facilities provided by STC. He visited both the practical and theoretical training rooms, as well as the heavy equipment operator practice tools located behind the Mimika Regency Government housing. Additionally, the Somatua Foundation and STC team escorted the Acting Regional Secretary to inspect the Mimika Regency Government’s Vocational Training Center (BLK), which is currently not in operation but will be utilized by STC. This facility is planned to be used as a training venue and lodging for trainees coming from outside the region, including those from Nduga Regency.

The Acting Regional Secretary (Pj. Sekda) of Nduga Regency highly appreciates what has been established by Maximus Tipagau. He believes this is also an opportunity for other regencies in Papua Pegunungan Province to send their best young people to participate in training at STC. He also encourages STC to provide training in other fields, such as technical personnel for airport operations, as this is greatly needed in remote areas with small airports.

After inspecting the STC training facilities, the Acting Regional Secretary (Pj. Sekda) of Nduga Regency left STC with a message that this cooperation is certain to materialize soon because the Nduga Regency Government is ready. He will return soon together with the Acting Regent of Nduga for a visit and further discussions. (Tim STC)
