Central Papua — A group of training students from Central Papua Province received Occupational Safety and Health (K3) instruction directly from Mr. Subana Simamora, an instructor and seasoned K3 safety expert. The activity was held as part of an integrated training program aimed at developing skilled workers who are also fully aware of the importance of safety in the workplace.

In the training sessions, which took place both in the classroom and in the practice area, Mr. Subana explained the fundamental principles of Occupational Safety and Health (K3)—ranging from the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and emergency evacuation procedures to identifying and anticipating potential workplace hazards. “K3 is not just a set of rules, but a work culture that must be instilled in every individual. Without K3, technical skills alone are not enough,” he emphasized during his presentation.

The students were visibly focused as they followed the explanations and simulations. They were given hands-on practice in using helmets, gloves, safety shoes, and eye protection. The training also included simulations on handling small fires and procedures for rescuing a co-worker involved in an accident.

Andi, one of the participants, admitted that the training broadened his understanding of the importance of workplace safety. “I just realized that accidents can happen at any time. Now I know how to protect myself and help others,” he said.

This training is expected to serve not merely as theory to be memorized, but as practical knowledge to be applied when the participants enter the workforce. The program is a strategic step toward producing Central Papua workers who are ready to compete at industry standards without compromising on safety. (STC)
