Somatua Training Center – Somatua Training Center – The third day at Somatua Training Center was filled with great enthusiasm from 13 employees of the Water Treatment Plant. The participants, consisting of experienced technicians and operators, attentively followed sessions on the Isolation of Hazardous Energy system, the fundamentals of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), and the proper use of body harnesses for working at heights. These activities took place in the workshop yard of Somatua Training Center on May 8, 2024.

The session on the Isolation of Hazardous Energy was delivered comprehensively, covering various types of hazardous energy commonly found in Water Treatment Plant environments, such as electrical, mechanical, and chemical energy. Participants were taught how to identify these hazards, implement proper isolation procedures, and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

In addition, the training also emphasized the importance of basic Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) knowledge for Water Treatment Plant workers. Understanding OHS principles and applying them in daily work routines can help prevent workplace accidents and maintain the health and well-being of the workers.

In the afternoon session, participants received training on the proper use of body harnesses. This training is crucial to ensure the safety of workers when performing tasks at heights. The participants were taught how to select the appropriate body harness, how to wear and use it correctly, and how to carry out routine inspections to ensure it remains in optimal condition.

One of the participants, Martinus Yobe, expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity to take part in the training. “I now understand today’s material, and as someone working at the Water Treatment Plant, it's important for us to be knowledgeable about Safety and Health (K3),” he said. “I’m thankful to Mr. Maximus for giving me the opportunity to join the training at Somatua Training Center.”

The training at Somatua Training Center is an important step in enhancing the knowledge and skills of Water Treatment Plant employees in the areas of Safety and Health (K3) and working at heights. With the new knowledge and skills they have gained, it is expected that the workers will be able to work more safely and efficiently, thereby contributing to improved performance and productivity of the company.(STC)
