Central Papua – After being introduced to the basics of excavators the previous day, five students from Enaro, Nabire Regency, continued their training at the Somatua Training Center (STC) practice area in Timika. On the second day, the participants began learning proper techniques for operating loaders and backhoes, along with understanding their functions.

The STC instructors emphasized that mastering loaders and backhoes is an essential skill for future heavy equipment operators. Loaders are used to move materials such as sand, soil, or rocks, while backhoes are utilized for excavation work. Both machines are widely used in construction and mining projects.

The participants are not only learning how to start and operate the machines, but also how to carry out work procedures safely, efficiently, and in line with operational standards,” said one of the STC instructors.

The second day of training was filled with enthusiasm. The students appeared focused as they practiced operating loaders and backhoes under the direct supervision of the instructors. They were also taught basic maintenance techniques to ensure the machines remain in good working condition.

Through hands-on field learning, STC hopes that the participants will gain an understanding not only of the technical functions of heavy equipment but also of work ethics and safety as professional operators. The program will continue for the next month, with the training materials becoming increasingly progressive and in-depth. (STC)
