Somatua Training Center (STC) has been operating for approximately two years since 2020. It has produced many graduates who are now employed in various companies and regions. As one of the training institutions committed to supporting the development of Papua\u2019s human resources, STC continuously improves in various aspects\u2014one of which is strengthening institutional capacity through standardized processes, curriculum alignment with the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), establishing competencies according to user needs, and currently moving towards accreditation. <\/p>\n
Therefore, on Thursday, June 16, 2022, STC received a visit from an assessor team that conducted a three-day site visit at the center. The assessors present were Mrs. Jumik Wiyono (Assessor and Chair of the Accreditation Committee for Vocational Training Institutions in Papua Province) and Mr. Roberto Sinto (Assessor and Member of the Accreditation Committee for Vocational Training Institutions in Papua Province).\n\nThe arrival of the assessor team was warmly welcomed at Somatua Training Center with a traditional welcoming dance performed by the GKI Kanaan Dance Troupe from Timika.<\/p>\n
Also present at the opening of the assessor visit to STC were the Acting Regional Secretary of Mimika, the Chief of Police of Mimika, and representatives from the Department of Manpower and Transmigration of Mimika Regency.\n\nOther invited guests attending the event included representatives from several banks in Timika such as BRI, BNI, Bank Mandiri, and Bank Papua. Additionally, religious leaders such as the Chairperson of GKII Region II Central Highlands and a delegate from Christ the King Parish (Timika Cathedral), as well as employers of STC graduates like PT Trakindo and PT KPI, also participated in the opening ceremony.<\/p>\n
In his speech, Maximus Tipagau explained that the institution was established primarily to assist the Papuan people, including the Amungme and Kamoro tribes in Mimika, as well as other tribes united under the Seven Tribes or other Papuan ethnic groups. Helping the Papuan community is the main mission behind founding the training center, which he referred to as a \"School for Adults.\" Equipping people with job skills is far more beneficial than simply giving them money.\n\nHe emphasized that Somatua Training Center cannot operate independently. Collaboration and support from other parties such as the government, churches, customary institutions, companies or contractors, and other private sectors are essential. He expressed his gratitude to the assessors and all invited guests for taking the time to attend the occasion.<\/p>\n
On the second day (Friday, June 17, 2022), an Accreditation Technical Guidance (Bimtek) session was held for all administrative staff and instructors of STC. The Bimtek lasted for a full day and focused on the eight standards that a training institution must meet to obtain accreditation.\n\nOn the same day, the two assessors continued reviewing documents and interviewing the instructors and staff of STC. Document reviews and improvements even continued into the evening.<\/p>\n
On the final day (Saturday, June 18, 2022), the assessors continued reviewing documents and conducting site visits to the classrooms and practical training rooms of all departments scheduled for accreditation. The accreditation visit concluded with a closing session where the assessors presented their recommendations and findings.\n\nMs. Jumik Wiyono, representing the assessor team, conveyed that the main recommendation for STC\u2019s improvement was that all instructors must possess competency certificates, technical certificates, and methodology certificates. It was noted that, at present, methodology certificates can still be substituted with proof of work experience.\n\nBased on the site visit by the Accreditation Assessors of KA-LPK Papua Province and the results of document and field verification, STC was declared to have passed. The next step is to await the plenary results from Papua Province and the Ministry of Manpower in Jakarta for formal ratification via decree.<\/p>\n
The results of this visit are undoubtedly very positive for STC in realizing its vision and mission, as well as serving as valuable motivation for the entire STC management team. Maximus Tipagau, as the director, highly appreciates the efforts of the entire accreditation preparation team led by Mrs. Suriani Surbakti, who serves as an advisor. He also expressed gratitude to the assessor team for carrying out their visitation duties by thoroughly examining all the components required for accreditation and providing constructive suggestions for improvement. <\/p>\n
